Samalira Waterfall is found at 3,140 meters in the southwestern circuit of Uganda. It is a natural site with clear flowing waters and is surrounded by beautiful scenery. Hiking to the waterfall usually starts early in the morning. This allows visitors to enjoy the clear waters and also watch the daily activities of some mammals and primates.
The hiking adventure costs $350, plus a park entry fee of about $35, making a total of $420. The trek is led by an experienced guide who takes visitors to the famous Samalira Waterfall for a memorable safari.
The journey begins at Samalira village with a short briefing before starting the trail. The first stop is Sine Hut at 2,596 meters, which is a climb of about 1,146 meters.
After resting, hikers continue to Kalalama Camp at 3,134 meters, where they can see views of cliffs, Kasese town, and Lake Edward in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
From there, the trail continues to Samalira Camp at 3,170 meters. Hikers who wish to go further usually spend the night here. The walk to this camp is tough, crossing a high ridge with giant heather trees and fog, as well as streams along the way. A determined hiker can continue until reaching the final destination, Samalira Waterfall.
After enjoying the waterfall, hikers return downhill. The descent is easier and has fewer stops, but hikers are advised to carry proper gear such as hiking shoes, snacks, water, and a first aid kit.
If carrying your backpack is difficult, porters are available at an affordable cost to make the journey more comfortable.
When you return to the village, you can interact with the Samalira people, who often share their culture and stories about life in rural Kasese.
