Detailed 2-Day Rwenzori Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Hike to Sine Camp (2,596m)

The trek begins by walking along the valley floor through tall trees of the Afro-Montane forest. The first six kilometers are a steady climb, then after crossing a river the trail becomes steep until you reach Sine Camp. The forest is full of birdlife, and you may see blue monkeys moving quickly through the trees.

Enock’s Falls are only 200 meters from Sine Hut. The waterfall, with bright green lichen growing on the trees around it, is an excellent place for photos.

At Sine Camp, wooden huts are set on a narrow ridge among tall trees. From here you can look down at a long line of rapids and a waterfall crashing over rocks. Many visitors enjoy sitting outside by the campfire, talking with the guides about the mountains and their community.

Sine is just below the bamboo zone, and the surrounding forest has many bird species. About 150 meters away is Enock’s Falls, surrounded by green vegetation and hanging vines.

Day 2: Hike down to Basecamp (1,450m)

After breakfast, the day’s activities depend on where you spent the night.

If you slept at Kalalama Camp, you may hear the calls of the Rwenzori Turaco, a bird that nests in the giant heather trees common in this area. You can try to spot the bird for photos, or climb a little higher to see mosses covering the ground, logs, and trees.

Afterward, the trail takes you back down to just above Sine Camp, where you branch left and descend toward Enock’s Falls. The forest here is very scenic, with a steady descent through thick trees and many birds.

Some areas have bamboo, while in others the trees are covered with vines and green lichen. Before reaching Sine Camp, you cross a stream just below another waterfall. At Sine, you can rest on the verandah and look down at rapids flowing through the valley.

If you stayed at Sine Camp, you can choose to walk straight down the forest trail, or climb up to Kalalama Camp for the views before returning down to the park entrance and hostel.
