MOUNT RWENZORI NATIONAL PARK RULES – Before starting your journey to the mountains, your tour operator will brief you on some of the rules you must follow.
You will also be reminded of these rules when you arrive at the park entrance. Some of them include:
- Do not pluck leaves or cut trees: The Uganda Wildlife Authority works to protect and expand nature for future generations. If you are found cutting trees or plucking leaves, you may face punishment. Always leave the park as you found it.
- Do not dump rubbish: Throwing rubbish in the park is not allowed. Some animals may eat it, which can be harmful or even deadly, especially polythene bags. Always collect your rubbish in one place and carry it out of the park with you.
- Follow your guide and minimize damage to trails: The mountains can be dangerous for visitors who do not follow instructions. Always listen to your guide to avoid accidents or encounters with wild animals. Respect other trekkers, share space, food, or stoves at huts, and do not take their photographs without permission.
- Guns and ammunition are forbidden: Guns and other weapons are not allowed in the park as they can endanger both animals and people. Only park authorities or police, with special permission, may carry them.
- Do not exceed the speed limit of 40 km/h: The speed limit inside the park is 40 km/h. This helps prevent accidents and protects animals from being disturbed. Wildlife is the first priority, and rangers will only act when necessary to scare away dangerous animals.
- Pets are not allowed: Pets are not permitted in the park. They can cause conflict with wild animals and may get lost or killed. To avoid such cases, pets are forbidden.
Keep these rules and regulations during your visit to Mount Rwenzori National Park to enjoy a safe and comfortable stay.
