Detailed 4-Day Rwenzori Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Hike to Sine Camp (2,596m)
The trail begins along the valley floor through tall trees in the Afro-Montane Forest Zone. The climb is steady, with many birds and a chance of seeing blue monkeys moving through the forest. Sometimes groups of 15–20 black and white colobus monkeys can be spotted swinging in the treetops.
Rare sightings of the L’Hoest monkey are also possible. These monkeys are an important cultural symbol for the Bakonzo people and are protected by the Omusinga (King). You may also hear wild chimpanzees in the distance.
The forest is full of different plants, including bamboo thickets, shrubs, flowers, fungi, moss, and lichen-covered vines hanging from tall trees. Just 200 meters from Sine Hut are Enock’s Falls, a lovely spot for photos and memories.
Day 2: Hike to Samalira Camp (3,170m)
You hike up through the bamboo zone to Kalalama Camp (3,134m) and enjoy the views. Kalalama marks the start of the heather zone. From there, you continue to Samalira Camp (3,430m).
Along the way, you will pass a series of waterfalls, including Samalira Falls, and walk through a garden of giant lobelias. Later, you descend to Samalira Hut, where you will spend the night in wooden cabins and enjoy dinner.
Day 3: Hike to the Waterfalls and Forest View Camp (2,580m)
After breakfast, the day is spent exploring a series of waterfalls. You hike up to Kamalha Falls and continue higher before taking the loop below Cathy’s Falls. You have the option to climb up and see Cathy’s Falls directly.
From there, the trail leads down to Nyamwamba Falls and then to Plozza Falls, where you can stop for lunch. The hike continues down to Engwe Falls and finally to Forest View Camp (2,580m) for the night. This camp offers peaceful views and is a perfect place to relax and reflect after the day’s trek.
Day 4: Descend to Basecamp
The final descent takes you back through the bamboo zone into the Afro-Montane Forest, alive with birds and primates. Just below Omusita Rest Area, you can either continue straight down or branch left to join a trail along the Nyamwamba River. This path passes through very beautiful forest before leading you to the park entrance and back to the hostel.
